While, there are a few reports in the literature on the growth of graphene films via microwave plasma enhanced CVD, their growth process was only speculative. In this work, using a combination of XRD and Raman analysis, we were able to comprehensively provide a growth mechanism for the graphene films.

The paper formed the basis of further work, including publishing of further 5 papers and the PhD thesis of N. Soin, which was awarded with the best thesis (year 2012) in the Faculty of Computing and Engineering, University of Ulster.
