This paper is the result of an international collaboration between the Universities of Oxford, Queensland (where I held a visiting professorship) and Hong Kong. It describes the development and evaluation of a novel energy dissipator which offers significant benefits for seismic-resistant design or retrofit of framed structures. It was recently highlighted by the journal as one of its most widely referenced papers since 2008, suggesting that the novelty and utility of the device have been widely recognised.
