Additional information

This work emerged from the £2.5M NERC Afar consortium project (NE/E007414/1) in the Horn of Africa and it was the first study to simultaneously constrain plate thickness and mantle temperature during the final stages of continental breakup. It this has important implications for the understanding of hydrocarbon-rich rifted margins worldwide.
