Decentralized supply chain formation using max-sum loopy belief propagation
<22> Facilitating supply-chain formation has long been one of the key research aims in the field of mechanism design. The paper proposed the first scalable, decentralized algorithm that uses loopy belief propagation for automatically composing supply-chains. Significantly outperforming competing systems in terms of efficiency, the method speeds up supply-chain formation, providing participating firms with a competitive advantage. The associated conference paper (ECAI 2010) has influenced many researchers: Penya-Alba, Vinyals and Cerquides performed work directly using these ideas. Chli is working with the Cambridge Institute of Manufacturing (Srai) and DHL to develop an operational system based on these principles.
