Los católicos ingleses ante el conflicto religioso en México
The chapter analyses perceptions in England concerning the Cristero revolt in Mexico (1926-29): a violent peasant reaction to anticlerical legislation and emblematic of the contradictions that any decontextualised implementation of the Liberal doctrine of the separation of Church and State inevitably gave rise to in traditional societies. The volume presents the reception of this momentous revolt across the Western world. Perceptions in England ranged widely, from the generally supportive outlook of the secular press to the sharply critical opinions of the editor of The Tablet, and Graham Greene's The Lawless Roads and Evelyn Waugh's Robbery Under Law.
