Modeling scalar dissipation and scalar variance in LES: algebraic and transport equation closures
Significance of output:
This work pioneers the use of numerical experiments involving turbulent combustion simulations for a posteriori validation of design tools for the combustion industry – this methodology avoids uncertainties inherent in use of laboratory measurements. Having demonstrated the capabilities of this methodology in this paper, Richardson has been awarded EPSRC grants EP/I004564/1 and EP/L002698/1 to apply it to multi-phase flows and combustion engine applications. A further development of this approach has been awarded the 2013 Distinguished Paper (Turbulent Flames) award from the Combustion Institute.
