In this paper we demonstrate the capability of the optical Stark effect to shape pulses to a point where the fundamental carrier dynamics in the gain cause groups of pulses to be formed. The pulse duration reached here is a record direct from any semiconductor oscillator. The paper has received 66 citations since its publication across a range of international research communities and was published in Nature Photonics, highlighting its impact. The paper was key in the development and subsequent award of an EPSRC Early Career Fellowship (2012-2017).
