A Political Biography of John Toland

This volume is the result of a decade’s engagement with Toland philosophical and polemical works, and contains commentary on the full corpus of Toland’s extensive writings (circa 80 works are either authored by or attributed to him). It makes full use of his archival remains, in the British Library and the John Ryland’s Library Manchester, and situates the subject in relation to a wide breadth of contemporaneous writing. Reviews have described it as ‘well written and well researched’ (Eighteenth-Century Ireland), and it represents far more work than would be needed to produce two articles.
