Additional information
This paper reports the development and application of a novel network worm epidemiological simulator, based on original proof-of-concept code written by Woodhead and with more recent work undertaken by Tidy, while working as one of Woodhead’s PhD students. The simulator employs a finite state machine approach, accounting for the heterogeneous nature of the internet. In addition to reporting the development and application of the simulation tool, the findings include the basis for a novel very high speed internet infection scenario which has significant implications for internet security.
