Additional information

This work led to me publishing a further 6 journal and international conference papers on telecommunications applications where the loss of the transmission is precisely matched by the optical amplification. There has been significant industrial interest in this work leading to two further ( >£100k total ) projects with Oclaro (Ian Mclean, RMO R&D) and Rostelecom. Follow-on work is a key part of the £4.7M EPSRC funded programme grant UNLOC, in which I lead one work package, and the EU FP7-People project 324391 GRIFFON investigating capacity increase of commercial optical fibre systems based on this research.
