Double-weighted statement

This 170,000-word publication discusses for the first time a full range of evidence relevant for a social history of third-century metropolitan Roman tombs, including tomb buildings and locations, inscriptions, wall painting, sarcophagi, and the catacombs with all that was found within them. The holistic approach required the collection and analysis of an extensive body of materials, which are typically studied as specialist areas or even in separate disciplines. It required engaging with the vast scholarship related to them, and their recontextualising in a way that has not been tried before.
