Fibre optics sensors in tear electrolyte analysis : towards a novel point of care potassium sensor
Point of care analysis is of growing importance in clinical practice because of combined financial and patient-related value to the health service. This device combines for the first time routine clinical appointments with low-cost convenient screening of early stage clinical abnormalities and is directly relevant to the readership of this specialist journal. The paper consequently attracted interest from Johnson&Johnson Vision Care who subsequently funded a research contract ($100Kpa) at Aston (contact Dr E. George- EGeorge1@its.jnj.com) to study ion transport through contact lens materials and led to an invited paper in a special edition of Experimental Eye Research.
