Additional information

This work was in collaboration with the world leading optical software design company Photon Design (http://www.photond.com), of which one of the authors, Dr Gallagher is CEO. It describes how to efficiently implement the FDTD method of electromagnetic analysis in systems with different length scales and thereby to substantially reduce computation times using this important method. Previous attempts at using adaptive mesh sizes lead to spurious reflections at the mesh interfaces. Thus paper solves that problem by using a novel high order interpolation scheme. The results of this research have contributed to the software produced by Photon Design.
