Double-weighted statement

This is the first-time publication of a corpus of some 170 mosaics. Extending beyond issues of iconography, date and craftspeople, the book provides an up-to-date synthesis of the Roman and late-antique archaeology of Crete since Sanders’ Roman Crete (1982). Considerable fieldwork (over five years) and data collection were involved: all mosaic sites were visited; archival work was undertaken in the British, French and Italian Schools at Athens, and the Athens Archaeological Society; searches of archaeological reports and publications included Greek journals and newspapers not widely accessible.
