Additional information

Starting from an idea by Karpovich, the generation and production of the book was equally shared between the editors. This collection directly addresses those aspects of Asian visual media which had been significantly under-represented in previous scholarship. Contributions were specifically sought from non-Western researchers in order to present a genuinely original and diverse range of perspectives. The strengths of the collection are in this diversity, and in the careful consideration of the role of screen media within wider geopolitical, historical, and sociocultural processes. The editing process included rigorous dialogue with researchers from across geographical and disciplinary boundaries.
