Additional information

This paper comes from collaboration with Professor Clemens Kaminski’s group at Cambridge University (contact; cfk23@cam.ac.uk). A joint interest in low cost instrumentation for cavity enhanced spectroscopy led to the development of an instrument based on pioneering work at Teesside University (Islam et al., Applied Spectroscopy, 61, 649-658, 2007).

This paper has very recently been published and it is therefore not possible to demonstrate verifiable impact therefrom. However, due to the 5-fold reduction in cost the technology has potential to be developed and integrated into instruments by companies such as Anasyst (www.anasyst.com, r.duggan@anasyst.com) and deployed in new areas of application.
