This is a world first successful demonstration on digital 3D shadowgraph/schlieren imaging and reconstruction, which is a breakthrough due to the innovative hardware set up and the quantitative (in design) digital 3D reconstruction and analysis. The developed hardware set up is considerably more accurate and simpler than the previous attempts. It is expected to have significant impact on the investigation of complex flow, where the flow is transparent but with density gradient such as the shockwave system and combusting flows.
