Knowledge of the distribution of drop sizes is needed in evaluating sprays/atomizers, and, critically, in the prediction of multi-phase flow hydrodynamics. The Rosin-Rammler expression, initially developed for powdered coal, is commonly used for representing droplet size distributions in sprays. This book chapter presents the application of a general Gamma distribution to represent the drop size distribution in a water spray model, and shows that it is a viable distribution function to use. Subsequent studies have shown that it can be applied to drop break-up/fuel sprays modelling. The chapter has been downloaded 2044 times (April 2012-March 2013; 14%-USA, 8%-India, 5%-China).
