The current action research adapts work by Appadurai, Greiner & Sakdapolrak (2013) et al.on populations and migration, and Bourriaud, Deleuze/Guattari on relational and rhizomatic structures, to seek insights and practical applications for creative international collaborations, utilising an established network of artists, cultural NGOs and Arts Festivals, operating in the ‘middle strata’ of the artworld, in an unique way, by creating new structures for emerging and established artists to meet, exchange and exhibit, outwith centralised artworld structures.

A typical output, the “Neighbours” newspaper is produced simultaneously in Canada, Armenia and the UK (Leeds) and acts as one vehicle for the on-going research, transforming sociological content into visual/verbal form, following a dialogic methodology.[Item 4]. This ‘snowballing’ output, originating during the SAMKURA project [3, 11] and exhibited in the Gyumri Biennale (2012), with subsequent iterations in Mallorca Translocal Meeting [Items 1,2], Canada, France (2013) and continuing to Stockholm ‘Supermarket Art Fair’ and the Gyumri Biennale again in 2014. The curatorial aspect is shared equally between Viader-Knowles (CAN), HAY (Leeds) and Tonoyan (ARM).

A second curatorial/practical aspect is the annual Arts Festival in Larroque France (2009 onwards), directed/curated by HAY, involving the work of artists from 50 countries, developing the notion of translocality by curating international contemporary art in a rural setting, away from the ‘centres’ of contemporary art. [7,8,9]

A third curatorial aspect is the writing/publication/adjudication for international Arts Festivals: (cf lead article by HAY for the Water Tower Festival Manifesto, Sofia, 2013, and annual participation by HAY since 2010) [6,5]

Further research manifestations include participation in or curation of group exhibitions (Can Gelabert, Mallorca, Larroque); participation in Artists’ Meetings, (Donegal, Leeds, Larroque, Yerevan) [3,11] and HAY’s presence on the Management Boards and Advisory Committees of International Arts Organisations and NGOs. (Samkura, AKOS, Water Tower Festival). [3,5,11,12]
