Additional information
The measurement of knitted fabric stiffness properties has presented a major challenge to textile technologists and designers since 1930 to the present. None of the traditional methods have been applicable due to the tendency of such fabric to curl at the edges making readings difficult or even impossible to take. This paper describes a new method for measuring the torsional rigidity of knitted fabric samples and this has been found to successfully correlate with the subjective assessment by industrial experts. This will enable knitted fabric designers and manufacturers to control the important property of fabric stiffness and handle.
