Significance of output:

This work demonstrates an innovative single cell handling method with the production of hugely multiplexed arrays of trapping sites with individual cells held by non-contact electric field effects. This work, which was conducted within a TSB/EPSRC project (TS/G001405/1) with Philips Research UK, includes clearly validated theoretical and experimental work, together with a robust design strategy. The outcomes of the grant represent an innovative platform for biochemical and medical analysis and are currently being commercialized through a spinoff from Philips Research.
