Automated regional analysis of B-mode ultrasound images of skeletal muscle movement
<28>This is the first known report of automated segmentation and tracking of ultrasound muscle sequences, allowing automatic, on-line determination of the degree of muscle-contraction. Using an Active Shape model and Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi tracker, it operates for realistically large, active and passive movements. The significance of the algorithm is shown by the high correlations found between derived and external measures for large and small movements. Its impact is in allowing real-time implementations, which permit biofeedback and the investigation of motor-control processes for large movements and deep muscles, which cannot be accessed via Electo-Myographic recording.
