<2>Output of the EU FP7 BACTOCOM project (FP7-ICT-2009-4 248919, coordinated by MMU). Listed by the journal as a “Highly Accessed” paper. First known description of a genetic logic device that can be dynamically switched between functional modes (NAND/NOR) without modification. The significance of our model lies in its inherent noise resistance, which is a major issue in synthetic biology. We present extensive simulation results, including realistic consideration of spatial and physical force factors, which yield important insights into population-level behaviour of engineered cells.
