Additional information

Funding for this work came via a studentship tied to a large NERC award (TSEC) to Gail Taylor (corresponding author). Hanley wrote the studentship proposal shortly before moving from Southampton to Plymouth in 2005. The relative contribution of the studentship supervisors (Hanley, Taylor, Goulson) in securing PhD funding is noted in the acknowledgments section. In addition to over-seeing experimental design, Hanley also wrote large sections of text in the Introduction and Discussion sections.
