Antenna selection reduces practical implementation complexity for LTE and WiMax. This work proposes an optimal approach that improves performance, as well as theoretically proving that all previously existing approaches are suboptimal. Results also show that this scheme outperforms all existing schemes in terms of error rates. A fundamental mathematical relationship derived in this work has been adopted by a research group in National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan (doi:10.5402/2011/384162, 10.1155/2012/681713). The student on this publicationhas since been employed as a research scientist in Bell Labs, Alcatel Lucent.
