The DC-DC converter analysed in this paper is inherently lightweight and of high interest for electric vehicle power trains at the 50-100 kW level. This paper is the first to analyse in detail the interactions between the individual converter cells in the interleaved system. Unexpected patterns of instability are identified and explained. The stability limits and the dynamic characteristics of the converter are derived and validated. The work is being taken forward with sponsor Prodrive to develop digital control techniques for a converter on board a demonstration vehicle (contact details available).
