Additional information
This paper proves that accurate multispectral images can be obtained in an underwater environment by correcting for the effects of optical back-scatter from suspended particles. The results have important implications for inspection of underwater structures as well as geology and microbiology and for the detection of threat objects such as mines. This work is the subject of collaboration with industry under the MOD MARCE projects Assured Detection and Classification of Mines and UAV Clear Range Procedures (contact details available). Exploitation is being handled via the spin-out company Dmist Research Ltd.
