Non-linearities in the piezoelectric response of III-N semiconductors first reported in this work have proved essential in designing light emitting diodes. The work resulted in collaboration with the University of Surrey (DOI: 10.1002/pssb.201200514) and the method is now used for LED design by e.g. researchers in the USA (DOI: 10.1063/1.4776739) and Poland (DOI: 10.1063/1.4749405). Migliorato was subsequently invited to give a keynote presentation at the 2012 448th Xianshang conference (details available) and was also awarded a visiting Professorship at the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems (BINN), part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
