Additional information

This paper describes an adaptive method for detecting abnormal situations on a large-scale crude-oil processing unit. Its key feature is that it can track changes in plant dynamics, while still identifying abnormal conditions, a severe weakness in other techniques. The method was developed in collaboration with Saudi Aramco (contact details available), where plant engineers have found it an invaluable aid in monitoring their processes.
