Additional information

This work demonstrates the technological feasibility of engineering integrated THz photonic structures using aperiodic distributed feedback technology. Specifically, in this paper, Y coupling architecture is demonstrated for THz semiconductor lasers. This advance shows that complex on-chip signal manipulation can be extended into the THz regime. Since Y architecture represents the most basic building block for complex interferometric devices, the work shows that there is clear potential for the development of future systems in which on-chip manipulation of spectral information is possible. This integration of THz active photonic devices especially lends itself to multi-wavelength THz imaging applications.
