This paper demonstrated the tunability and non-reciprocity of the ferrite left-handed metamaterial-inspired coupler, and provided a fundamental understanding of how the left-handed coupler on ferrite substrate differs from a conventional one both theoretically and numerically. Research groups in India, China and the USA and elsewhere are already using it, e.g. in photonic devices (DOI: 10.2528/PIERM08060401), in antennas (DOI: 10.1163/15693908784158670), and in sensors (DOI: 10.2528/PIERB08022901).
