Colon tumor growth and antivascular treatment in mice : complementary assessment with MR elastography and diffusion-weighted MR imaging
Anti-vascular and anti-angiogenic cancer therapies are very recent developments and many molecules are currently being tested with high expectations. However, there are currently few classical imaging biomarkers available which can reliably show tumour regression. This analysis demonstrates that biomechanical properties provide complimentary information to diffusion weighted imaging with respect to tumour response. It is the first time that the correlation between vascular density and measured apparent elasticity is demonstrated. This investigation thereby opens new perspectives for the assessment of tumour response to vascular disrupting agents and lays out the fundamentals for a potential new biomarker.
