This research was carried out with support from the EU biomass industry; its aim was to assess a number of biomass fuel types from Warwickshire and Luxembourg. One of our industrial collaborators (Agripellets Ltd) supplied a 30kW industrial unit, gratis, for the study. The output of this work has led to a successful application of an INTERREG IVB (€7.2 million) project. The outputs from the research were particularly interesting as a comparison was made between fuel quality (tested according to EN standards) and emissions measured under various operating conditions which can lead to improved biomass boiler designs.
