Effects of modifier additions on the thermal properties, chemical durability, oxidation state and structure of iron phosphate glasses
This paper resulted from work undertaken in collaboration with staff at the Immobilisation Science Laboratory in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Sheffield. The partnership was established in 2004, and since then many important papers have been published. The new aspect of this work, as part of a PhD programme, was the development of a method to immobilise problematic radioactive wastes for which present solutions are limited. This work raised the profile of the group and illustrates our important involvement in the UK radioactive waste cleanup programme. Subsequent collaborations have been requested by University of Manchester and Tokyo Metropolitan University.
