Additional information

The research demonstrates that the cold start characteristics of diesel engines can be preserved and do not limit desired reductions in compression ratio, but idle stability will deteriorate without remedial action. Combinations of fuel injection strategy and glow plug temperature changes were shown to provide effective solutions; this was pursued in later work and has influenced engine development within Ford.
