Crossing the Line. Video, drawing.
Crossing the Line features the voice of a bumbling middle American pastor with the incessant repetition of the analogy of ‘crossing the line’. I improvise the vocal gestures, acting out and embedding mark making with the pencil on paper. The work portrays new insights into drawing expressed through both traditional and new media processes.
Work selected through peer review selection panels for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2012 (Drawing), and Create, Observe, Perform at the Alkovi Galeria, Helsinki (Video). Selection emphasises international validity and rigour within international context. Citations clarify.
Items are grouped, containing the same artwork however provide two forums of dissemination at international level. This proves the validity of the work through two critical cultural perspectives (UK / Finland). Both critical reviews involved selection by means of origionality, progressive and ground breaking practice portraying work at the forfront of the discipline through open call.
