Additional information

This work uses computational fluid mechanics to assess the morphology and function of the aortic root following root replacement operations. The research was carried out in collaboration with a world-leading surgeon Prof Magdi Yacoub and clinicians at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital. Clinical statistics showed that autologous grafts are superior to other root substitutes and this computational study provided morphological and fluid mechanical explanation for this. This work, initially supported by the Magdi Yacoub Institute, was followed up by a personal fellowship (Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center Fellow) for the first author by the Qatar Foundation.
