In vivo high-resolution 3D photoacoustic imaging of superficial vascular anatomy.
The application of a novel photoacoustic scanner to imaging vascular anatomy is described. A set of exquisite images that convincingly demonstrates the application of the technology for assessing conditions such as skin tumours, burns, wounds or ulceration were obtained. This work excited significant interest as evidenced by the award of the prestigious 2010 Roberts Prize for the best paper in Physics in Medicine and Biology. It was also reported by New Scientist, Laser Focus World, The Engineer and featured in the 2008 EPSRC Annual report. It is one of the highest cited papers in the field with 110 citations (3/7/13)
