Additional information

Polyamine mediated synthesis of novel silica structures, elucidated relationship between hydrophobicity and charge. Funded by a Royal Society Joint Project grant (2006-08) and US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (FA 9550-06-1-0154). Led to further EU/INTAS funding (“synthetic models for biosilicification”, 2007-09 , 130,000 ecus, Perry lead) with Univ. Helsinki, and Novosibirsk and Limnological Institute, Irkutsk. Invited talk by Perry (FlowSyn, Cambridge 2008) lead to collaborative development with Biotage, Sweden (2011-13, £120,000). Collaborators are also pursuing new applications (e.g. J. Mater. Chem. B1, 1164, 2013; Chem Commun 49, 3191, 2013; Anal. Biochem. 2010, 407, 44, 2010).
