Roman Imperial coins from the sanctuary of Thun-Allmendingen in the Swiss Alps are presented and analysed. This assemblage is unique for two reasons. Firstly it is part of a well preserved context of votive gifts attesting to Roman cult practice; the coins were thrown to the altar of the Goddesses of the Alps inscribed ALPIBVS. Secondly the high proportion of reformed antoniniani is explained as a possible effect of the introduction of the nummus under Diocletian. The perspective of unfavourable exchange rates between the nummus and the antoninianus may have encouraged the worshippers to get rid of the antoniniani.
