Galen: On Problematical Movements. Texts, translation and commentary.

This monograph represents research carried out over several years on highly complex material in Greek, medieval Latin, and Arabic sources. There is an extensive discussion and collation of the complex manuscript tradition of the two Latin versions as well as a detailed exposition of the work’s place in medieval medicine and philosophy. The integration of the different translations, including the Arabic, and their interpretation of Galen’s original is achieved through comprehensive annotation. The volume breaks new ground by rescuing a poorly known work and demonstrating its importance for the ancients’ view of the mind/body relationship.
