It is the result of several years' original research including archival research in the Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel, the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris and the Bibliothèque royale de Belgique. The research entailed (1) the study of musical sketches and their analysis and evaluation in a philosophical narrative; (2) extensive reading in the areas of twentieth-century French and German philosophy (3) the construction of an original narrative; (4) the production of translations from unpublished foreign language sources (French and German).
