Cluster policies in Europe: firms, institutions and governance

This monograph is a product of the 5th EU framework programme. Its research took 5 years to complete, and involved primary data collected through face-to-face, in-depth interviews with 300 firms and 100 institutional representatives in 6 countries. There were also 8 focus groups with national and European policy elites. The writing took 2 years following project completion, and this involved the development of a dozen original case studies that were comparatively analysed across several dimensions. Much more time was needed to produce this monograph than would be spent on an empirical journal paper.
