Heroic Imperialists in Africa : Heroes of the British and French Empires, 1870-1939
'Heroic Imperialists in Africa' is based on several years of archival research among vast collections of private papers, publishers' archives, official records and printed primary sources. It stems from a lengthy exploration of an exceptionally wide range of primary sources in England, Scotland and France, involving the analysis of large quantities of correspondence and quantitative data (e.g. publishers’ print-runs over several decades). The extent of the body of primary material used in the book, as well as the pioneering way in which imperial heroism is approached as a Franco-British phenomenon in this 130,000-words monograph, explain the request for double-weighting.
