Double-weighted statement

This monograph developed from extensive research in Italy of 40 years of Marco Bellocchio’s filmmaking, including rare shorts, all unpublished screenplays, director interviews, and in-depth research into the political and psychoanalytical background to the films, particularly the notoriously obscure theories of Italian psychoanalyist Massimo Fagioli. Its thesis is a complex theoretical one which traces the thorny interrelationship of the public and private, the collective and the individual, through, in part, bringing into the discussion the work of theorists like De Man, Brecht and Zizek.
