The paper proposed a new model for a poorly researched, but industrially important, technical area. As a direct result of this published work the research student, Kuhan Chellappah, was employed by BP and subsequently shortlisted for the Tallow Chandlers Award. The journal paper provided the basis for an invited presentation on ‘Filtration of fibre/particle mixtures’ at the 11th World Filtration Congress in Graz, Austria and a follow up paper by Chellappah has been shortlisted for The Filtration Society Suttle Award.
