Additional information

This paper presents the culmination of a three year study in which advanced computer simulation techniques were developed to produce a validated design tool capable of predicting the performance and fuel economy of forklift trucks. The project was jointly funded by InvestNI and NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG). The resulting model is currently being used by engineers in NMHG (Portland) and Fleet (England). Based on the success of this research, further funding has recently been awarded to extend the model to include future hybrid and electric powertrain options. Industrial contact Dr Gopi Somayajula, Vice President, Global Product Development, NMGH, Oregon
