Evaluation of a rapid method for the simulation of sloshing in rectangular and octagonal containers at intermediate filling levels
Significance of output:
An important primary energy source of the UK is natural gas imported in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) via ships. Sloshing is a problem for LNG transportation and there were incidences of sloshing damages on board LNG carriers.
This paper reports the evaluation evidence of a faster than real time sloshing simulation model, ideal tool for safe design and operation of LNG carriers, developed by the authors.
The project was jointly sponsored by EPSRC, European Union and BMT SeaTech Ltd. The development plan for an on-board system based on this validated model is currently with BMT SeaTech Ltd.
