Significance of output:

This paper is a necessary source of pragmatic information for the ship designer. The results allow the operator the ability to specify the optimum trim angle for minimising the fuel consumption. The requirement of being able to move passengers across restricted waters with minimal wave distrubance for ecological reasons is now paramount. This has meant that traditional monohull designs are being replace by catamarans becasue fo their inherant fuel savings, but at a cost of potentially larger wave wash. This paper allows the dsigners the capability of optimisation with reduced wave wash guaranteed.
