Characterising Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer using Template Prostate Mapping Biopsy.
<25> Published in a top urology journal, this paper combines computational modelling of the physics of needle biopsy sampling, 3D reconstructions of histopathological images of human surgical prostate specimens, and statistical modelling using Monte Carlo simulations to derive new criteria for diagnosing prostate cancer without the expense of clinical trials. These criteria have been incorporated into a new predictive scheme for characterising the severity of localised prostate cancer by template-guided prostate biopsy mapping. The scheme has been adopted by 10 major hospitals internationally, including UCLH where it has determined the treatment options for over 700 patients to date.
